Year

Before the modernization of reactive power compensation, the facility operated two outdated automatic compensation systems, which only partially covered the reactive power demand. Detailed measurements revealed that the reactive power demand was highly dynamic – with frequent sudden spikes, significant load fluctuations, and rapid changes in reactive power. The reactive power was inductive in nature, fluctuating between 20 and 180 kVAr.

Problem

Due to sudden reactive power spikes (ranging from 10 to 180 kVAr per second), traditional automatic compensation systems were too slow and could not effectively adapt to load dynamics. This was directly reflected in electricity bills.

Solution

Considering the situation, it was decided to implement an advanced SVG reactive power compensation system, which, thanks to its fast response capability, quickly adapts to changing demand. Two 200 kVAr SVG compensation systems were installed at the facility, each dedicated to separate feeders. This solution ensured fast and precise reactive power compensation and significantly reduced reactive power costs. By using SVG technology, the risk of overcompensation was eliminated, while the power factor is consistently maintained close to unity, regardless of load fluctuations.
